WHO WE ARE
UMOJA is an initiative of the National Congress of Black Women Foundation.
UMOJA is a community-based service organization providing various services to people of African origin in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia who may be infected or affected by HIV/A IDS.:
HIV PREVENTION & EDUCATION
UMOJA looks at several types of prevention strategies that people can apply in their daily lives to reduce the risk of contracting and spreading HIV/AIDS. UMOJA also provides condoms to those who need them and education on harm reduction.
COUNSELING SERVICES
UMOJA offer Counseling Services to people who are infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS. The Counseling is either on one - to- one, provides moral support, which may involve home visits; hospital visits; accompanying clients to their various appointments for e.g. physician, social worker, hospitals and clinics.
RESOURCES CENTER
UMOJA has on hand an educational and informative library of material in the form of brochures, books, and video available at the office .The mistrials look at wide range of issue pertaining to HIV/ AIDS, including transmission of HIV, prevention strategies, treatments of HIV/AIDS and the effects associated with the medication, also rehabilitation services available to those infected with HIV. These resources are available to the members of the public.
